I. About Changzhou
Changzhou, located in southern Jiangsu province, is situated in the centre of the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) region. It has a population of over 5.8 million, a history of over 3,200 years, and a highly developed economy. It is now China’s National Model City of Etiquette and Cultural Advancement, Chinese Excellent Tourist City, National Famous Historical and Cultural City, National Ecological City, National Forest City, National Pilot Low-Carbon City, China Habitat Environmental Award, “Tourism + Internet” Innovation Demonstration City, National Hygienic City, National Garden City, and National Advanced Area of Cultural System Reform. Changzhou adheres to innovation-driven development and accelerates the growth of the intelligent manufacturing industry. It is committed to building itself into an international intelligent manufacturing hub and capital of new energy. In 2023 and 2004, the GDP of the whole city exceeded 1 trillion yuan.
Located between Nanjing (the provincial capital) and Shanghai, Changzhou offers a metropolitan area experience with Suzhou and Wuxi. The city's convenient transportation system, including the Changzhou Benniu International Airport, which connects to over 40 domestic and foreign cities, ensures that you can easily explore and travel during your stay. Changzhou has four railway stations: one in the city centre and the other in its northern and southern parts. A high-speed train takes only one hour to reach Shanghai and about four hours to Beijing. Metro lines 1 and 2 are also in operation, making city transportation more convenient.
II. About Changzhou Institute of Technology (CIT)
Founded in 1978, Changzhou Institute of Technology (herein referred to as CIT) is a full-time higher education institution approved by the Ministry of Education in China. It has a more than 100-year history of offering Teacher Training Education.
CIT has a total area of about 87 hectares. At present, it has more than 1400 staff members, over 17,000 full-time students and nearly 100 international students. CIT is a multidisciplinary university with 20 Schools/Teaching Sections, offering 57 undergraduate programs and 3 graduate programs with majors in the fields of Engineering, Science, Management, Economics, Literature, Education and Arts. CIT has a modern library, excellent sports facilities, a training building for the integration of production and education, a cultural and art activity centre, an international academic exchange centre, and advanced teaching equipment and laboratories.
CIT actively engages in extensive international educational exchanges and cooperation. It has established long-term friendly partnerships with over 60 universities and institutions from countries such as the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, Japan, etc.
CIT began enrolling international students in 1994. It welcomes students from over 60 countries and regions across Asia, Europe, the Americas, Africa, and other parts of the world. CIT is designated as a Target University for Overseas Study in Jiangsu Province, recognised as “Jiangsu Advanced Team in International Students’ Education”, housing the Changzhou Learning Centre of the Chinese Language & Culture for Foreigners and the Changzhou Chinese Culture Training Centre for Foreigners. Additionally, it serves as a Hanban HSK test centre. CIT features the “Learning Centre of Chinese Language” staffed by highly qualified teaching personnel.

III. Application Requirements
1. Foreign citizens with no criminal record and good physical and mental health. For applicants who were originally Chinese citizens and have acquired foreign nationality, the relevant regulations of the Ministry of Education will be implemented.
2. Good moral character, complies with Chinese Laws and regulations and respects Chinese ethics and customs.
3. For the Undergraduate Program, “3+2” Upgrading from Vocational to Undergraduate Program, Preparatory Undergraduate Program, applicants should be above 18 and under 24 years old and should have obtained senior high school graduates or equivalent education level.
Applicants for Undergraduate Programs or those Upgrading from Vocational to Undergraduate Programs should have Chinese proficiency Level 4 (HSK-4 with a score of 180 or above).
4. For the Long-Term Chinese Language Program, applicants should be over 18 and under 50 years of age.
5. Applicants for majors in economics or sciences should possess a certain mathematical foundation.
IV. Programs
1. Undergraduate Program (taught in Chinese)
The standard duration of education is four years (five years for Architecture), with a maximum study period of six years. In the first year of undergraduate studies, the School of International Cooperation is responsible for cultivating students according to their major categories. In the second year, students join relevant schools to study together with Chinese students in the same major. Students will receive a graduation certificate upon obtaining the required total credits and prescribed credits and meeting the graduation requirements. Those who meet the criteria for the degree will be awarded a bachelor’s degree certificate.

2. “3+2” Upgrading from Vocational to Undergraduate Program (taught in Chinese)
The standard duration of education is two years, with a maximum study period of three years. Applicants should have graduated from vocational colleges in China. After registration, they study together with Chinese students in the same major.
Students who successfully complete all the courses within the regulated period will receive a diploma; students who meet CIT’s degree-awarding requirements will receive a bachelor’s degree.

3. Preparatory Undergraduate Program
The Preparatory Undergraduate Programme recruits students who wish to study in CIT’s undergraduate programmes without a foundation in Chinese or who do not meet the language requirements for major study. The programme lasts from six months to two years and offers courses such as Comprehensive Chinese, Spoken Chinese, Chinese Listening, Chinese Reading & Writing, and Intensive HSK Test Training.
4. Long-term Chinese Language Program
The programme aims to train students in Chinese listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, as well as to enhance their cross-cultural communication competencies. The programme lasts from one to four semesters. Students will be grouped into different classes based on their level of Chinese. The courses primarily include Comprehensive Chinese, Spoken Chinese, Chinese Listening, HSK Exam Intensive Training, and Chinese Culture. Students who attend all classes and pass all examinations will receive a Study Certificate upon successful completion of all courses.
5. Short-term Cultural Exchange Program
Only available to students from foreign universities or schools that have established educational cooperation with CIT.

VII. Review and Admission
Applicants shall be required to provide supplementary materials or be assessed by written test or interview. Admission results will come out through the online application system. Unsuccessful applicants will not be notified.

X. Scholarships
1. CIT Special Scholarship for Excellent Degree Programs Applicants
This Special Scholarship is awarded to those excellent applicants who apply for Undergraduate Degree Program or “3+2” Upgrading Program. It is selected at the enrollment application stage. The reward standard is based on the comprehensive evaluation of freshmen's academic performance, interview results, etc.
2. CIT Individual Scholarship for International Students
(1)Scholarship for Academically Outstanding International Students in CIT
Scholarship for Academically Outstanding International Students is awarded to undergraduate degree international students who have studied in CIT for more than one year and achieved excellent academic records. The scholarship evaluation is between October and November every year. The scholarship is accessible to the yearly registered international students who pay full tuition, which is divided into three levels: first-class prize (6,000RMB), second-class prize (3,000RMB), and third-class prize (1,000RMB).
(2)CIT Scholarship for Comprehensive Qualities of International Students
Scholarship for Comprehensive Qualities of International Students in CIT is awarded to undergraduate degree international students who actively take part in different sorts of scientific, sports, art or social activities and fully use their talent to promote cultural exchange. The scholarship evaluation is between October and November every year. The scholarship amount is 500 RMB.
(3)HSK Scholarship
HSK Scholarship for International Students in CIT is aimed at encouraging students who complete their first year of Chinese language study to achieve excellent marks in HSK and continue their undergraduate degree studies in CIT. Students will get the scholarship of 2000RMB (pass HSK5 or above) and the scholarship of 1000RMB (pass HSK4). HSK 4 and HSK 5 scholarships cannot be won simultaneously.
3. Scholarship for Excellent International Students in CIT
Scholarship for Excellent International Students is awarded to international undergraduate degree students who have studied in CIT for more than one year and achieved excellent academic records. The scholarship evaluation is between October and November every year. The scholarship amount is 9,000 RMB.
Students who are awarded the “CIT Excellent International Students Scholarship” can’t apply for individual scholarships.
4. Jiangsu Provincial Government Scholarship
The Jiangsu Provincial Government Scholarship is evaluated every October and November. Students who are awarded the Scholarship are tuition-free and cannot apply for other scholarships.
XI. Visa Application and Registration
Admittees should apply for a visa (X1) to study in China at the Chinese embassy (consulate) in the host country, bringing documents such as an ordinary passport, the Admission Notice, and the Visa Application Form for Foreign Students in China (JW202 form). They should then register at Changzhou Institute of Technology at the specified time. Those who fail to pass the entrance examination after registration will be disqualified.
